The Retrofit Exchange, LLC will end the housing industry crisis using Internet technology, social media marketing and sound construction project management techniques.
Retrofit Exchange has designed and constructed a software product that applies simple production methods to the emerging residential retrofit industry using social media marketing techniques.
The scalability of the software allows it to be integrated quickly into any level of home retrofit, ranging from individual minor home measures to a full-scale community wide program.
The Retrofit Exchange is unique because it eliminates financial risks to: the investor, the property owner, and the workforce by implementing a quantifiable task-completed compensation system.
The ease of operation enables minimally skilled users to assess energy retrofit needs and provide professional construction oversight.
Processes provide capabilities to seamlessly integrate green building practices as well as energy efficiencies and alternative energy solutions for the retrofit process. This flexibility enables Retrofit Exchange to meet the preliminary needs of the current administrations Green Jobs initiative, Home Star, aka ‘Cash for Caulkers’ and can be expeditiously re-provisioned to meet the final guidelines as they are available.

Hurricane Katrina inspired a group of Midwestern real estate professionals, homebuilders, and software developers to create Rebuilding Management, LLC. (A philanthropic effort resulting in an innovative online software solution to provide effective construction oversight for faith-based volunteer recovery groups)
That system has been re-purposed, retooled and further developed into a Home Energy Retrofit Exchange that includes for-profit contractors, home energy auditors, utilities, mortgage lenders and HERs raters. The network platform will enable the current administration’s Green Industry vision to be realized and is backed by some of the most influential names in the United States. Our Exchange Network system is key in correcting the housing crisis as it provides an immediate way for all interested parties to get back to work without exposing themselves to unnecessary risk.

The Retrofit Exchange is the only “Enterprise Resource Planning” system specifically designed for the residential retrofit industry.
Our three-tiered approach to our service incorporates:
- Two proprietary software products.
- A contractual third party company that incubates and qualifies energy auditors and HERS raters nationwide.
- Our automated cash handling system for payment administration encourages and rewards the industry with a self policing, “bottom up” financial safeguard that will programmatically flag fraudulent or negligent payment approvals.
Our software models the entire business organizational structure with proven management reporting, delegation capabilities, and security permissions, across all departments. This top down management of information and personnel is only possible through our patented trade partner communication system.

The Retrofit Exchange is an Internet-based system. There’s no software to download, no need to continually upgrade, and no fear of losing data. The Exchange is available 24 hours a day, and users can access the system wherever there’s Internet connectivity.
Components that set Retrofit Marketplace Exchange apart from other systems include:
- Property Assessment
guides the energy auditor through the home energy audit using detailed instructions and checklists, ensuring all aspects of the audit are covered. Audit summary includes uploaded photos and floor plans and programmatically generated building file for DOE approved energy modeling software.
- Cost Estimating
automatically generates cost estimates and project proposals, eliminating the need to do this manually. Packages include a complete list of materials, a detailed proposal, a preliminary work schedule, a fee schedule, and an estimated cost.
- Material & Contractor Bidding
automatically creates detailed requests for quotes, and sends those requests to The Exchange’s qualified vendors. Compiles vendor submissions for homeowner review.
- Purchase & Work Orders
electronically submits purchase orders and work orders to the Retrofit Exchange vendors, eliminating piles of paperwork and maintaining the orders in database for easy retrieval.
- Scheduling & Labor Management
provides structured, easy-to-manage schedules that cover every stage of the retrofit process. Schedule changes automatically cascade down through the schedule, adjusting all subsequent tasks.
- Construction Management
guides the Field-Project Manager through the work-verification process using detailed checklists, ensuring that all tasks have been performed satisfactorily as well as status reports with photos.
- Financial Safeguards
escrow arrangement provides financial security to both homeowners and vendors.
- Communications
automatic notifications keep homeowners, subcontractors, and material suppliers up to date, eliminating the need to call everyone individually.
- Documentation
maintains an archive of completed projects, providing data on demand for audit reports and performance evaluations.
In addition to the construction-management system, The Retrofit Exchange offers access to a pool of top-performing, local trade contractors and high-quality material suppliers for general contractors and homeowners to choose from. Homeowners can even select building materials (such as insulation, mechanical systems, and solar) without ever leaving home. The Exchange’s online catalogs make the selection process easy.
